Call for Paper Proposals: Young Scholars’ Forum in Chinese Studies 2022

Co-organized by CUHK-CCK Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies

and Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

May 28-30, 2022

The Chinese University of Hong Kong-Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies and the Institute of Chinese Studies co-organize the Eighth Young Scholars’ Forum in Chinese Studies, to be held on May 28-30, 2022. The forum aims to nurture young scholars in Chinese Studies and strengthen the network among young scholars in the field.

Ph.D. students (after completing qualifying examination) or Ph.D. graduates with less than five years of work experience are invited to submit proposals on any aspect of Chinese studies. Proposals related to the theme of Chinese Borderlands in Transition: History, Space, and Culture are preferable. Topics of interest include but are not restricted to the following: 1. Emergence of borderland communities and lifestyles; 2. Border-crossing and subsequent cultural activities; 3. Changes in religions and religious practices; 4. Changes in natural and artificial landscapes; 5. Memories and imageries of geographical and cultural boundaries; 6. Impacts on other geographical regions, cultural spaces, and intellectual domains. Participants are expected to be proficient in both English and Chinese.

The Forum will only cover expenses for lodging and round-trip transportation (economy class) for the participants*. The organizer will provide maximum subsidy of 1,000 USD (subject to approval) in transportation. Forum registration is free.

Deadlines: Online application due January 3, 2022.

*If public health conditions for travel or in Hong Kong do not permit the holding of the forum in-person, it will be held via online platform.
