Thursday 29 September 2022, 10:45

I letos na katedře přivítáme několik zahraničních odborníků na Koreu v rámci tzv. Carousel Lecture za podpory European Program for the Exchange of Lecturers. První přednáška "UNESCO and Shared Cultural Heritage: Confucian Academies in China and Korea" proběhne už 30. září od 9:45 v učebně 2.44 na tř. Svobody 26 a prosloví ji dr. Martin Gehlmann z Freie Universität Berlin. Všichni jsou srdečně zváni!

"In January 2015, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic Korea to the UNESCO nominated nine Confucian academies (sŏwŏn 書院) for inclusion into the UNESCO world heritage list. After the bid initially had run into some problems, the Korean academies were designated as world heritage in July 2019. As Confucian academies had historically spread widely in East Asia, one major challenge for the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) of Korea during the registration process was to provide proof of the “outstanding universal value” and the “unique testimony to a cultural tradition” of the nominated Korean academies. In this talk I will look at Confucian academies, the Korean application, the Chinese reaction, and draw some conclusions on the understanding, usage, and role of Confucianism and its cultural heritage in modern China and Korea."

Martin Gehlmann is a research assistant the at department of Korean Studies at Ruhr-Unversität Bochum. He earned his PhD in December 2020 with a thesis on Confucian Academies between China and Korea. His research focuses on East Asian educational history, institutional history in premodern Korea, Confucianism, and cultural heritage.
